SOLO AI ’25 AWARD

PRODUCTION OPEN CALL

SOLO AI AWARD, organized by SOLO, invites global artists and creators to investigate the convergences between contemporary creative practices and artificial intelligence. This international call, focusing on digital art and new media, will award the sum of 10,000 euros for the production of an artistic project to be presented at one of its venues in Madrid, Spain.

SOLO AI ’25 AWARD invites artistic and speculative explorations of the foundational models, semantic embeddings and multimodal architectures of generative AI, focusing on the ontological shifts and the reshaping our epistemological landscape.

In the face of discourses that polarize the human and the machine as opposing entities, we recognize that AI systems act not only as tools or autonomous agents, but as relational infrastructures that recalibrate how we process, interpret and produce reality. AI’s multimodal frameworks—spanning text, image, sound, and spatial data—dissolve the partitions between discrete modes of experience, fostering hybrid epistemologies.

How do generative models destabilize traditional categories of meaning-making? What new aesthetic grammars emerge when human intuition intersects with machine stochasticity?

SOLO AI ’25 AWARD prioritizes projects that:

Expose the Frictions: Investigate the gaps between machine ‘understanding’ and embodied knowledge.

Speculate on Interfaces: Reimagine human-AI interaction beyond chatbots and prompts, proposing novel frameworks for collaborative ideation, dissent, or ambiguity.

Map Unseen Logics: Visualize the latent geometries of neural networks, translating weight matrices, attention mechanisms, and gradient flows into sensorial or conceptual forms.

For the third edition of the award, we welcome production proposals across all media—digital/physical installations, algorithmic performances, speculative datasets, theoretical essays, and experimental software—, critically engaging with AI. The selected project will be presented in one of the SOLO exhibition spaces in Madrid at the end of 2025.

The SOLO AI ’25 AWARD is part of the AI annual programme presented by Onkaos, which aims to create a global conversation about the implications of artificial intelligence and artistic practices. An international jury and additional programming will be announced in the following weeks.

Deadline: 10 June 23:59 h CET

Art. 2 — DESCRIPTION OF THE AWARD

The SOLO AI ’25 AWARD awards €10,000 for the production of an artistic project, either unpublished or in progress, either for the production of an artistic work or for research that includes a material and exhibition outcome.

In addition, the winning project will receive the following benefits:
• Public exhibition of the produced project.
• An international communication campaign.
• Participation in all public activities related to the exhibition, such as lectures, workshops,
publications, etc.

Art. 3 — APPLICATIONS FOR PARTICIPATION AND REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION

The call is free of charge and open internationally to artists and researchers, both individuals and collectives. The call limits each participant to one proposal. If an artist is part of a collective and wishes to submit an individual proposal, both proposals will be considered valid.

All applications correctly filled in with the required information will be considered valid and must be sent via the following form: https://forms.gle/VXFKRCrjpgksYVPp7

The form should include the following information:

Which must include:

  • Artistic concept of the project (Max. 1000 words).
  • Detailed technical description of the needs of the project (Max. 1000 words and 10 photographs/sketches).
  • Technical specifications of the work (Max. 1000 words).
  • Budget. This budget must include the artist’s fees, as well as all the components and full production costs of the work, broken down.

Proposals will be accepted until 23:59 CET on 10 June. No documents will be accepted after the deadline.

Art. 4 — DISTRIBUTION OF THE PRIZE

The prize of the call includes 10,000 euros for the production of the piece.

The budget must include the artist’s fees, as well as all the materials necessary for the correct execution of the project and the production costs associated with it. All technical equipment included in the budget, as well as the resulting work, will become the property of the recipient of the prize.

The selected project will be presented in the new SOLO space in Madrid (Spain).

The exhibition design and any decision to adapt the work to the exhibition space will be taken jointly by SOLO’s curatorial team and the winner. For this purpose, an endowment of up to 5000 euros will be allocated, which may be increased if so determined by the institution.

SOLO will not cover the travel, accommodation and living expenses of the artists involved in the production of the work.

However, the organisation will cover those expenses related to the artist’s presence at the public presentation of the work.

The winner undertakes to cover all expenses not included in the budget.

Art. 5 — SELECTION OF THE WINNING PROJECT

The winning project will be selected by an international jury invited by SOLO and announced
on SOLO’s public channels.

The jury will evaluate the proposals received according to the following criteria:

  • Appropriateness of the project to the rules of the prize and to the curatorial themes.
  • Critical and innovative nature of the use of artificial intelligence.
  • The participant’s trajectory.

The results will be made public and communicated to the winner by email, who will have five
working days to respond to the organisers. Otherwise, the prize will be awarded to another
artist chosen by the jury.

SOLO may declare the prize void if it deems it necessary.
